Craniosacral Therapy is based on the work of Dr William Garner Sutherland who, around 100 years ago, developed an approach to Osteopathy known as “the Cranial Concept”. These original concepts have been refined and extended over the years to become the Craniosacral therapy of today.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a subtle and profound healing form which assists the body’s natural capacity for self repair. It provides a way to connect with the body’s innate wisdom and ability to heal and repair. The therapy is led by the client, allowing the whole system to set the pace at which adjustments take place and the order in which change occurs. Listening to the body through craniosacral touch can bring about a reorganisation that is physiological, psychological and energetic. Stress and anxiety are also reduced and the client often experiences greater relaxation and enjoyment of life. As this is a gentle therapy, it is suitable for everybody, and has proven particularly helpful for the elderly, or people with delicate, degenerative or painful conditions.
What are the Benefits?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can lead to changes in areas of restriction and discomfort, and an optimising of overall health. Clients often experience more energy, resilience, calmness and mental clarity. Through a series of treatments, a client can experience greater vitality and well-being, an improvement in symptoms and a movement away from old patterns and dis-ease. This can lead to a renewed sense of direction and purpose and new ways of relating to others.
Trauma
Many conditions, such as birth issues, accidents, chronic illnesses and psychological stress have their origins in physical or emotional trauma. BCST works particularly well with these traumas, facilitating a safe resolution of shock and held experiences. These changes can have a profound effect on a person’s body and mind and on how they relate with others.
What happens in a session?
Treatment is fully clothed and is generally carried out whilst the client is lying on a treatment table, but it can also be done with the client sitting in a chair. The therapist will make contact by placing their hands lightly on your body and tuning in to what is happening by “listening” with their hands. The therapist is able to notice contraction or restrictions held in the tissues and fluids of the body. As the primary orientation is towards the client’s inherent health, deep and lasting transformation can occur. Clients often become deeply relaxed during a session. There is no manipulation involved with BCST as the body will make it’s own shift into re-alignment at it’s own pace when it is supported to do so.
A session lasts from 35 – 50 minutes.
